Heart To Heart Results
SYRACUSE, NY, February 12, 2011
The 2011 Heart to Heart Tennis Event (February 4-6, 2011) kept the indoor courts hopping all weekend at Tennis-n-Gear in Liverpool and Gold’s Gym in DeWitt. There was a big turnout, with 140 participants, and a big payoff for AIDS Community Resources (ACR) of more than $4,500.
Competition was fierce, but as always at the Heart to Heart, it was friendly too. “We just love this event and we love supporting ACR,” said open champion Wil Murtaugh, who teamed up with his younger sister, Kathleen. “Playing with a close relative gives you an edge, I think. We read each others moves and play more instinctively; and you can’t beat the camaraderie.”
Other family teams included: father and daughter mixed 3.5 doubles champs Brian and Amari Pollard: grandfather and granddaughter mixed 2.5 doubles champions Jim and Emma Funiciello; and husband and wife fun division finalists Cathy and Brian Louer.
Mixed 3.5 doubles champions Jennifer Bolland and Steve Moore surprised themselves and surpassed all expectations by winning in their division in their first ever tournament.
The Heart to Heart brought in more than $4,500 for AIDS Community Resources, whose six offices give direct client support to hundreds of HIV-infected individuals, their families and friends. Funds raised help support AID Community Resources’ Q Center for LGBTQ youth.
